Our Story

Adam and Aisha met in Sydney, Australia, and lived there for over a decade. Adam grew up in the Czech Republic, in a family that raised most of its own food — vegetables in the garden, pigs, rabbits and chickens of their own, the countryside always close. Aisha grew up in São Paulo, but a long visit to the Czech Republic changed something for her: she wanted to grow her own food too.

In Australia they found the permaculture movement, and that's where the dream really started. After years of travelling, Adam and Aisha eventually landed here in Canada. They waited a year, came back, and bought the property. They love it. Adam jokes you can bury him here.

Their goal is to grow an abundance of food on this property. They don't specialize in one crop or one animal, and they're not really here to run a business. They're here to plant, to grow, and to keep the farm growing — enough food to share with their kids, their neighbours, and whoever else is around. Many of the trees Adam and Aisha planted will only really benefit their grandchildren.

Anything that comes off this farm goes to you the same way they'd prepare it for themselves. They try. There are still a few things the conventional system doesn't quite support — proper scalding for pigs, for one — but they keep working on it.

Adam chose Mangalitsa for the heritage of the breed. Good pork takes time, and that's fine — Adam and Aisha are here to grow the best one they can. They love fat — it's pretty much the only thing they cook with.

They believe in a system where more is better. Nature is layered, abundant, a little confusing — and that's exactly what they try to replicate here.
